Title: Resonance.

Mark Elliott Smith’s practice investigates formal relationships of colour and shape and their potential for emotional affect. This is one of a series of abstract drawings in response to costumes worn in ritual dances, which reference different totemic animals. At a time when our relationship to the natural world is in question, this drawing offers the viewer an insight through art into this world. Laying down strokes of colour pencil, Smith transforms the essential dynamic spiritual quality of each dance into an object of contemplation.
